Who We Are

Gabriel's Story

Navigating through the complexities of the foster care system in a bustling city like Chicago proved to be a challenging journey for Gabriel. Despite feeling overwhelmed and isolated at times, his steadfast faith in God's plan provided him with the strength to persevere. He held onto the belief that change would eventually come, and it did when, after two years in foster care, he was reunited with his biological grandparents in Uvalde, Texas.

Living with his grandparents gave Gabriel the chance to experience life in a nurturing family environment. His grandfather, Mauricio, taught him valuable skills such as car engine repair, plumbing, landscaping, fencing, and even building kitchen countertops. Meanwhile, his grandmother, Lucía, showered him with unconditional love and respect. From them, Gabriel absorbed the importance of mutual respect, resolving conflicts peacefully, and honoring those who have had a positive impact on his life.

Gabriel acknowledges the role that each individual has played in shaping him into the loving, empathetic, compassionate, thoughtful, and generous person he is today — recognizing that every person brought into his life by God has contributed to his transformation.

Our History

From a Dream to a Nonprofit

When Gabriel was just 11 years old, he reunited with his mother Olga in Whittier, California. Despite being raised by his grandparents, he was grateful to finally bond with his mother and receive her love and kindness — never harboring resentment for the past. Olga ran a concession business selling fruit drinks and cups, often making trips to downtown Los Angeles to restock. Gabriel eagerly accompanied her each time, witnessing the homelessness in the area and feeling compelled to help by giving spare change or a few dollars.

He would look up at the sky and promise himself that one day he would have a successful business that could make a difference in people's lives. Today, that dream has become a reality. As an entrepreneur running businesses that generate income to support those in need, Gabriel's reach extends across California, Baja California, Mexico, and various cities across the United States.

In the beginning of 2022, Gabriel was inspired by his supporters to seek nonprofit status and was successfully approved as a 501(c)(3) organization. With the assistance of his loyal son, family, friends, and committed volunteers, Courageous Heart is bravely moving ahead — fearlessly providing aid to individuals from all diverse backgrounds.
